Birth chart calculator: your Moon sign, nakshatra and current period

One date, and the three things a Vedic chart rests on: where your Moon stood, which nakshatra it was in, and which period you are in right now.

What one date is enough for

In Jyotish the Moon leads, not the Sun. From the date alone we know the sign it stood in and which of the twenty-seven nakshatras. The Vimshottari dasha periods are counted from that nakshatra: which planet “runs” your years right now and when it changes. Without a birth time the period can shift by about a year — and I say so.

What the hour and the city add

The rising sign, the twelve houses and the exact place of every planet. The chart stops being “everyone born that day” and becomes yours. All of that opens in the app: the date is already there, add the rest when you know it.

Sade Sati and transits

The slow planets — Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu — cross the signs over years and land differently on different Moons. Sade Sati is the seven and a half years when Saturn passes around your Moon. This page shows whether it is on now; the app shows what to do with it.

What a chart will not tell you

What another person feels and what will happen. A chart shows where your attention is pointed right now and where effort will be needed. The decisions stay yours.

Questions

Is this a Vedic chart or a Western one?

Vedic (Jyotish): sidereal zodiac, nakshatras, dasha periods. That is why your Moon sign can sit one sign back from the Western one you know.

Why is the period “about”?

The start of a period is counted from the Moon’s exact position, and without the birth hour the Moon is known to within a day. Hence a shift of up to a year. Add the time and the dates become exact.

Do you store the date?

Not on this page: it goes into the calculation and is not kept. In the app it is saved in your journal so you do not type it again.

What does it cost?

The calculation is free. Readings of the chart in the app take Petals; the first pair reading is free.

For reflection and conversation. A count does not read other people’s feelings and does not promise the future. Dates entered on this page are not stored.
