Birth chart
Free birth chart calculator — from your date of birth, with interpretation
Lavender builds your birth chart the Vedic way (Jyotish): where the Moon and the planets stood on the day you were born, which period you are in now and until when. The chart itself is free, no email. It works without a birth time. Everything in it can then be discussed with Lavender in the chat — she remembers your chart.
What a birth chart is, in plain words
A birth chart (natal chart) is a snapshot of the sky at the minute you were born: which sign the Moon was in, where the Sun, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu stood. Character, relationships, work and what is happening to you now are read from these positions.
Vedic astrology — Jyotish — uses the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, so your Moon sign here can differ from a Western horoscope by about one sign. That is not an error; it is a different reference point, the one used in India for two thousand years.
What Lavender calculates from your date of birth
- Moon sign, nakshatra (lunar mansion) and its quarter — pada — with the ruling planet. In Jyotish, character and mood are read from the Moon, not the Sun.
- All planets in signs with degrees: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu. Retrograde planets are marked.
- Houses — when the birth time is known. Whole-sign houses, as in the Vedic tradition.
- Your current Vimshottari dasha: the major period and sub-period with dates — until when, and which planet comes next.
- Today’s transits (gochara): where the planets are now relative to your Moon.
- Sade Sati: whether you are in Saturn’s seven-year period, and in which phase.
- Birth-date compatibility: eight matches between two charts, up to 36 points (Ashtakoota). You see the number before the reading.
All of that is the chart itself, and it is free. A reading in one context — purpose, work, money, children, relationships, this period — costs Petals, the in-app currency. No subscription.
Birth chart without birth time
Don’t know your hour of birth? The chart is still calculated. The Moon, nakshatra, planets in signs, periods and transits are there; only the ascendant (lagna) and houses are missing, and period dates may shift by up to a year. Lavender says so right in the chart instead of pretending to know.
Birth-date compatibility — between two people
Enter your date and his and you see compatibility by birth charts: eight matches out of thirty-six points, the way Vedic tradition counts a couple (kundli matching, Ashtakoota). Without his birth time Lavender shows an honest range rather than a round number: the Moon changes nakshatra in about a day.
The first pair reading is free. You can skip his date — then Lavender looks from your side.
Count our compatibilityDiscuss your chart with Lavender
Lavender is an AI companion, and she remembers your birth chart in the conversation. You can ask: “which period am I in and until when”, “what does my nakshatra mean”, “Moon in Scorpio — what is that about”, “why is it hard right now”. Three messages a day are free.
And every morning — one step for today from your chart: by the Moon’s position today relative to yours. Not “a lucky week”, but one concrete thing to do.
What Lavender does not do
She never says what another person feels — no chart knows that. She does not promise the future and does not diagnose. The chart is for reflection and conversation; the decisions are always yours.
Questions
How do I calculate my birth chart for free?
Open the app and enter your date of birth — the chart is ready. Hour and city add precision, but it works without them. No email or payment.
How is a Vedic birth chart (Jyotish) different from a Western one?
Vedic charts use the sidereal zodiac: the Moon and planets shift by about one sign compared to Western. Houses are whole-sign, and life periods are counted with Vimshottari dasha, which Western astrology does not have.
Can I get a birth chart without my birth time?
Yes. There will be no ascendant or houses, and period dates may shift by up to a year. The Moon, nakshatra, planets, transits and compatibility are calculated.
What is a nakshatra?
A lunar mansion: the zodiac is divided into 27 nakshatras of 13°20′ each, every one with its own character and ruling planet. The Moon’s nakshatra at birth is the basis of character in Jyotish.
What is a dasha period?
Vimshottari dasha is a 120-year cycle divided among nine planets. The major period and the sub-period within it show which theme is in the foreground now, and until which date.
Is this a horoscope?
No. A Sun-sign horoscope is shared by a twelfth of all people. A birth chart is yours alone: from your date, hour and city.
For reflection and conversation. A reading does not read other people’s feelings and does not promise the future.
